Funding Sources for Charitable Gift Annuities
  1. Cash
  2. Certificates of Deposit (CDs)
  3. EE Saving Bonds: Matured EE Bonds pay NO additional interest upon maturity.
  4. Appreciated Stock: This is the funding source of choice when available. When the stock is transferred to TNRAF it does not trigger an immediate taxable event. Note: If the value of the stock is less than what you paid for it, sell the stock first.
  5. Mandatory distributions from IRAs: Funding a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) with mandatory distributions after age 70 1/2 may provide a charitable income tax deduction offset for the taxes due on the mandatory distribution.
  6. Voluntary IRA Distributions: A slight variation on the above-provides the opportunity for those over age 59 1/2 to take self-determined distributions while making a charitable gift, reduce or eliminate taxation on the IRA distribution and secure a steady income stream to supplement other retirement income.
  7. Firearms: you may make a gift of firearms to TNRAF to fund a CGA. TNRAF will first sell the firearms and the proceeds will then be used to fund the CGA. When using firearms as the funding mechanism, one must understand that it may take 6-9 months to complete the sale/funding process. Call (800) 672-4521 for details.
